Q: What kind of house do you live in?
A: A restored sea captain's house
The house was constructed by Capt. Isaac Carver some time between 1818 and 1830. The house has a rich history and was owned by descendants of Isaac Carver up until 1940. The house sits on coastal Route 1, across the street from Searsport Harbor. In the 1800s, the Carvers had a shipyard across the street, at what is now the site of a church.
Inside, the house contains detailed wood trim and a beautiful spiral staircase that leads up to the cupola. There are eight fireplaces, including one that has the original decorative tiles surrounding the cast-iron fireplace insert. We have spent a good portion of our free time over the last four years restoring the house to it's former grandeur. If you're ever in the area, feel free to stop by for a house tour.
